LIAM'S YARNS
OUR FAVOURITE PLACE

LITERARY MOMENTS
We have a special place that we go to in the car whenever Audie can drive us.
These two pictures were taken at our favourite places
When Audie was well, she used to take us there once a week, and we used to look forward to going, and as soon as we saw her packing a bag, we knew we were going to the BEACH! WOW!
Caelan and I would sit in the back seat, looking out of the windows, and Colleen always sits in the front beside Audie, where she likes to be the 'passenger seat driver'!
Here we are, looking out of the windows at the wonderful sights - (and Colleen, doing her supervising!)
CAELAN
ME (LIAM)
(Madam) COLLEEN
We LOVE the beach - with its fresh sea air, paved paths along the beachfront, wonderful inviting smells around every tree and, - FISH AND CHIPS! (though we sometimes have KFC - which is pretty yummy too!)
We have our own special picnic spot under a shady tree with a great view of the ocean and all the people passing by - especially those walking their dogs!
As the Man Of The House, I naturally have to look after all the girls, and protect them from the two-legged sharks that might be snooping around. Whenever men come close, I always sniff them out first, but the ladies are always welcomed by me, and I love little children and sit and protect tiny babies when their Mum's stop to talk to us. (The Mums always comment on what a clever boy I am!)
I do have a pet hate though. PEOPLE ON BIKES! I got hit by one once, and never trust them now. They zoom along the path and expect pedestrians, including us, to move away for them to pass. Or they ring those bells and scare us out of our wits. I thought pedestrians were supposed to have 'right of way' ! At least, that's what the signs say!
We go for a lovely walk along the path, which is very close to the beach, but we are not allowed ON the beach. I reckon that's discrimination against a wonderful species! SPECIESISM!!! Yep - that's the word!
We meet up with lots of nice people and Colleen is really funny when she sees someone sitting at a picnic table. She edges over towards them, watching to catch a glimpse of a smile. Then she waggles over and you can almost hear her saying: "Oh, hello there! My name's Colleen - - isn't it a lovely day?" And if they speak to her, she's over there like a flash, putting on her charms - you really have to see it to believe it. She even gets up on the seat beside them and gives them kisses. How embarrassing!
Not everyone wants to talk to us though, and if they ignore her, Colleen gets really miffed and walks off in a huff, looking back at them and mumbling under her breath: "And what's YOUR problem!"
My sister Colleen is a rare dish! She gets that from our Great, Great Aunty Carla I'm sure. Whenever a lady who once called Carla a 'mutt' entered the house, Carla would sniff loudly and promptly leave the room!
Caelan is another one who puts on a show for everyone. (It must be a 'girl' thing!) She dances over and leaps around like a fairy, licking and bouncing up and down - Gee! Being the Man Of The House, I just stand there and wait to be noticed. Girls are so pushy. But, don't ya love em!
We especially love meeting the children. Many come up politely and ask Audie if they can pat us. It's so nice to see well mannered children. They are gentle with us too, and we appreciate that. Many of their Mums and Dads invite us to sit on their rugs while we chat. We like rugs! The grass often has prickles and nasty ants that bite. Sometimes, if we're lucky, we even get offered some of their chips if they are eating them! (In America, I think they call them 'fries'.)
When people stop to talk, there is one question they always ask, and that is - WHAT BREED ARE WE? Some have strange ideas of what we look like and I think they need their eyes tested! Can you BELIEVE that one lady asked Audie if we were MALTESE??????
Audie doesn't always suffer fools gladly and on that occasion I clearly recall her asking the lady when was the last time she saw a Maltese!!! OOOAAH
There is a patch of beach nearby where dogs are allowed to swim, but it's rocky and not too nice. I wouldn't mind giving it a try, but the girls run away when the water reaches their feet. Sugarbabies!
Mind you, I don't think Audie would be too happy to have three wet dogs in her car!
One day when we were walking along the beach path, a man with one of those flying things couldn't stop it from getting whipped away in the wind before he could get it into the water. (I think they call them 'Wind Surfers'.) We watched the poor man chasing it all over the place. I tried to run after him to help him catch it. Poor Audie nearly got pulled over in the rush! Anyway, it ended up in a tree, all tangled. Took him ages to free it again.
Another man was riding in the sea on a machine that looked like a bike of some kind. It made a lot of noise and was spewing water out of the back of it. It looked like a lot more fun than sitting in a boat and I think Audie should get one and let me ride pillion behind her!
People were fishing off the bank, near the rocks, and I could smell fish in one basket. I wanted to go over and have a yarn with the man but Audie was a spoilsport and wouldn't let me. I don't know why she doesn't try that some time. I would help her bait her hook, and bring the fish in when she caught one - - and we'd ALL help her eat it!
Yes, our days at the beach sure are fun, but we are so tired after all the excitement and sleep most of the way home. The beach is wonderful, but it's always nice to be back in our 'Home Sweet Home' - where we hop up on Audie's bed, and dream of fish and chips!
Hooroo now, until next time -
LITERARY MOMENTS

Colleen (in hat) Me and Caelan on our walk
G'Day Maties!
As I've mentioned before, I have always been interested in Literature. I was first introduced to writing and reading when I was a tiny puppy, when Audie used to have my playpen decked out with newspapers and magazines (in case I had little accidents!)
I soon learned to read these interesting articles when Audie was out and I had nothing else to do.
To make sure she kept up the supply, I would shred them after reading so she'd have to replace them with new reading material for me.
As I grew older, I watched her typing at the computer and, being a smart lad, I soon got the hang of it and tried it myself. NOW I am a JOURNALIST, and able to write stories and tell you all about my adventures and those of my family. (As they say, 'Practice Makes Perfect'!)
Audie used to always take us to the Library when she was taking out, or returning Books, or Audio CD's and DVD's. We went along for the ride, and got a short walk as well.
We weren't allowed inside of course, but she would tie us up outside and it was fun to watch everyone going in and coming out. The girls would sit and enjoy the trees and lovely fragrant smells of the countryside (it is placed in a parkland area - very rustic,) but I would take a quick look at what the patrons had been reading as they dropped their returned books down the special slot - like when you post a letter.
I knew some of the titles because I'd looked over Audie's shoulder when she was reading. My favourites are the James Herriot books about animals in Yorkshire. I'm interested in Yorkshire because Audie's Daddy was born there.
I only had Colleen with me on this particular occasion, because Caelan was away with her breeder, caring for her litter of six pups. Yes! I'm an UNCLE!!!!
Here is a picture of Caelan with her puppies.
So Colleen and I sat by the door, admiring the pretty trees and shrubs outside the Library, and getting lots of pats and cuddles from people who were also visiting. I wished I had a good book to read while we were waiting, but there was plenty to entertain us anyway.
One little boy came out with a book and sat near us. He opened it up to read while waiting for his Mummy, so I edged over closer so I could see what he was reading. It was a nice book with lots of pictures of farm animals.
NOW, I've never seen a REAL, LIVE farm animal. Audie has definitely slipped up on my education here!
(You'd think she could take me to the country so I could meet some horses, and cows, and goats, and pigs, and sheep!)
He was only a tiny boy, and I don't think he could read. Gee, I wished I had a voice to read the story to him, but all I could do was make barking and yelping noises. This made him think I wanted to be patted and he closed the book to play with me, just when I was enjoying it! But I DID get lots of cuddles, so I can't complain.
Soon, Audie emerged with a bag full of books. GOODIE! But then the unpredictable happened, - it began to pour with rain!
Audie grabbed our leashes and told us to 'run for it'. (for what?)
She took off at a trot and I followed, while Colleen, who hates to get her feet wet, dragged along behind, her head down, ears back and tail tucked in. What a sugarbaby!
Because Colleen was going at a snail's pace we ALL got drenched before we were safely back in the car. People were laughing at us. We must have looked a funny sight, with me in front leading the way, then Audie trying to drag a very reluctant Colleen, who was bringing up the rear looking like a drowned rat!
When we arrived home it was still raining. Audie asked me to get the mail before it was soaked, so I ran to the letterbox and pulled out some very wet envelopes. (I always get the mail for Audie, but she has to get it off me before I 'open it up' myself. She doesn't like that. I can't imagine why!)
Next was a brisk rub down with a towel (we love that bit!) and then we all settled on the bed to look at the books Audie had taken out. That's the part I love the most.
While I looked at the books, Audie read her mail. Oh, it was such fun! Only Colleen seemed to think it was a traumatic experience. She pawed at Audie to 'read her a story' while I started to read THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES.
I must tell you here about Colleen's 'requests' for Audie to read to her. This was a ritual for Colleen on wet days and cosy evenings - Audie had to read her a fairy story - of HER choice! Colleen would select the book, AND the story, then cuddle up beside her and look at the pictures, and prompt her with little prods if she stopped reading to look at the TV or something!
Colleen loves literature too, you see, but she can't read it herself like I can! Below is a picture of Colleen listening to an Audio Book!
Well Maties, that's all for now! With this final picture, I'll be signing off from Australia.
