LIAM'S YARNS

MY COUSIN ERIN
Little Erin is my Mummy Rie's newest baby. (Mummy Rie bred me and Colleen) Erin was bred by our friend, Betty, and we are all very proud and protective of this little Irish lass.

We visit her whenever our Audie visits Mummy Rie, and we always have such fun with our brother Patrick and cousin Molly, and now, the new addition to the family - MISS ERIN!

Little Erin is growing up fast, but I have some corker stories to tell you about her antics. She's really something else, this little lady, so I have decided to tell you some of the most amusing stories I know about her.

First of all, here are some cute pictures of her when she was just a wee puppy:
Now, she is all grown up and is a true Irish lassie with a lovely Irish coat. Here is a recent picture of her:
Well, now that you've seen how beautiful she is, I'll now tell you how cute and clever she is!

                         ERIN'S FAVOURITE TOYS.

She has three brightly coloured squeaky tennis balls. (perhaps she will grow up to be a famous Tennis Player!)

A while ago, her favourite entertainment was to get Mummy Rie down on her hands and knees.  (No longer an easy task for Mummy Rie!)

She achieved this by placing these balls under cupboards; under the computer bench (where there are fun things like tunnels to run and scamper through); under and behind the lounge chairs, and places that she knows Mummy Rie can't easily get to.

Then, she either lays looking and pointing at it, or runs to Mummy Rie, bouncing around and running back and forth to the spot with excited yips, and a 'come on Mother, hurry up'!

So Mummy Rie gets down to retrieve the ball, AND THEN IT’S ON!!!

When she had Mummy Rie down on all fours and at her mercy, Erin would begin to lick her ears, neck, face, - jump on her, leap over her, and generally trap poor Mummy Rie on the floor until she surrendered!   Oh yes!  Erin had a WHALE of a time!

After growing tired of this game, she changed her routine. Her new trick was to begin running frantically back and forth - to and from the bathroom, and getting very agitated with Mummy Rie.

When she asked Erin what was wrong, Erin continued to bounce around in circles.

Mummy Rie asked again what was the matter, and with that, Erin dashed into the bathroom and jumped into the bath.

There, she stood, looking at Mummy Rie with the cheekiest expression that you could imagine, and it just broke Mummy Rie up into peals of laughter.

There, in the bath, were the three tennis balls!

(Below are pictures of Erin with her balls.)

                                                                *********

I now have another story to tell you about Erin.  She certainly is a little lass of many surprises!

I know that some dogs have many and varying reactions to music, but Erin has her own special way of showing her appreciation - or not!

It is customary for humans to sing 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY'  and other things to their dogs, and Audie always sings to us on our special days, but we don't react in any way like our cousin Erin does! (But then, does Erin react to anything the way others do??!!??)

Well, one day, Mummy Rie was resting on her bed, singing to Erin, and it was obvious from this picture that Erin was quite interested ....
 ENCORE .....?!?!
Well, on this particular day, (and, I believe, on several other 'musical occasions' since,) poor Mummy Rie got the distinct impression that her singing talents were not exactly appreciated by Miss Erin!

Now, was it ignorance on Erin's part, or is our little cousin a 'Music Snob'?  Perhaps she only likes Opera, or Oratorio, or expects Mummy Rie to sound like Dame Nelly Melba!!!

Whatever the reason, Cousin Erin decided that the 'music' had to stop, and Mummy Rie's beautiful voice had to be SILENCED - right then and there! She wasn't even given the chance to finish her song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Erin, after giving the matter due thought and consideration, moved from her position of observation, and promptly, and unceremoniously, SAT on Mummy Rie's FACE, shutting her mouth!

And that was the end of the song, and sadly, there was no chance of an encore!

As you can see from the picture above, I am NOT exaggerating or telling porkies!
I promised Mummy Rie I would 'talk' to Erin about it when we visited, and I did. I knew how upset Mummy Rie would feel to be so UNAPPRECIATED by her child, but do you know what Erin said?

She gave me one of her cheekiest looks, and told me in her little voice that she was only trying to show Mummy that she didn't care for THAT particular song, and that the ONLY songs she wanted to hear were 'COME BACK TO ERIN'  and 'THE PRIDE OF ERIN' - and any other Irish songs with HER name in them!

Now I ask you, isn't that just TYPICAL of feminine pride and arrogance!  Pat and I would NEVER make such demands.  We love whatever Mummy Rie sings.

Actually, I suspect that Erin does too.  She just likes to be cheeky and draw attention to herself, but I'll bet she loves Mummy Rie's singing as much as we do!

So, Mummy Rie - WE  are giving you - an  ENCORE!

                    BRAVO!!!!!!!!

This is Liam signing off once more.  Stay tuned for more of my Yarns!
